A forum set up primarily for the support of students and ex-students of the Newark Woodwind Course. There is a public forum, where general chat about woodwind instruments and the Newark course can take place, as well as a number of member only areas for technical discussion. I would like to think that our wide community of ex-students would like to support each other, the new students and the continuation of the course by contributing to these forums.

Woodwind Instrument Making and Repair is a 3-Year full-time course (first year is a level 2 course, second and third years level 3). The repairing covers all the woodwind family from Piccolo to Saxophone. Repairs cover the range from basic replacement of pads to complete overhauls involving advanced repair techniques. Students will make a complete Boehm system Clarinet from basic raw materials.

Woodwind and Brass Instrument Making & Repair courses Courses available Full time City & Guilds: A three year course covering both Brass and Woodwind repair and manufacture. Part time day ASET Level 2 Certificate: A two/three year course in Woodwind repair, one day per week on a Tuesday. A Brass option is expected to be available late 2004.

This course on historical woodwind instruments, from medieval, renaissance or baroque periods, is for those with some woodturning experience. Students can choose to make items such as a simple flute or a cylindrical recorder, or a complex baroque bassoon. Prior consultation with the tutor is advised.

Shefford Town Band is a Brass and Woodwind band, caters for all ages of musician and plays in and around Shefford. I'd only ever played trumpet on my own before joining the band. It's a bit daunting at first but everyone was very friendly and helpful. It's very different from playing on your own - you've got to keep an eye on the conductor and listen to what other people are doing. What you don't realise is that everyone else has been through the same learning stage at some point.
